Position: Executive Director


Organization: Redwood City Child Development Program, Inc.


Location: Redwood City, CA


The Redwood City Child Development Program, a childcare center serving low-income working families and parents that provides a comprehensive childcare program, seeks an Executive Director. The Executive Director, under the guidelines set by the Board of Directors, is responsible for the overall administration and delivery of a high-quality, state funded early childhood education program, serving children ages 12 months to 5 years. The Executive Director delegates authority and specific tasks, but retains accountability for program implementation. Ideal candidates will have a deep appreciation for the organization’s vision and mission. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Redwood City, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the annual budget and submit to the Board of Directors for input and approval
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the Centers’ overall operation
  • Interpret and follow state guidelines for early childhood education programs
  • Oversee the implementation of recordkeeping and data retrieval systems essential to the effective administration of the program
  • Negotiate all required agreements and contracts for operation of the program
  • Recruit, hire train, and evaluate all personnel
  • Initiate corrective measures and/or termination of staff, as needed
  • Supervise and work with staff to design, develop, and implement a developmentally appropriate educational program that meets the needs of the enrolled children
  • Plan and coordinate the purchase of instructional equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Ensure proper implementation of policies and procedures
  • Plan and implement staff meetings and staff development training
  • Schedule staff to ensure appropriate classroom supervision and adult to child ratios
  • Implement a nutritional program that ensures well balanced breakfasts, lunches, and snacks are served daily and are in accordance with the guidelines of the federally funded child and adult care food program
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations set by city, county, and state
  • Monitor facility maintenance to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the environment
  • Offer parent involvement opportunities through parent programs, including new family classroom orientations, parent/teacher conferences, parent advisory committee, parent educational meetings, social events, and fundraising activities
  • Oversee the completion of the annual Agency Self Evaluation and submit a Program Action Plan that includes a review and summarizations of the Developmental Profile Summary of Findings, the Parent Survey Summary of finding, and the Environment Rating Scale Action Plan
  • Prepare agendas for the Board of Directors and submit monthly fiscal, attendance, and summary reports to the Board of Directors
  • Plan, inform, and make recommendations regarding the program to the Board of Directors and attend all meetings of the Board of Directors meetings
  • Maintain regular contact with supporting agencies, community, county and state organizations, childcare resources and networks
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in Early Childhood Educations and state requirements
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  • BA or MA in Early Childhood Education or Closely Related Field
  • Minimum four years of related experience in child development programs that include preparing and monitoring budgets, hiring and supervising staff, developmentally appropriate program planning, completing state required paperwork, and maintaining required data
  • Holds a Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing or is able to qualify for the Permit
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of California Child Development Division’s methods and materials used in the desired results systems and knowledge of State Licensing Regulations
  • Ability to work under the direction of a Board of Directors
  • Familiar with basic computer technology appropriate to the childcare field
