Position: Development Director

Rubicon Programs Inc. seeks a Development Director to join its team. The mission of Rubicon Programs is to create and deliver integrated solutions to profound social problems. Their purpose is to make a positive and lasting impact on people living in poverty and on people living with disabilities, especially psychiatric disabilities.  They empower people to move out of poverty and improve their quality of life.  Their programs include workforce services, behavioral healthcare, case management, affordable housing, and legal services.

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising and external communications plan. The Director supervises a Development Associate in this effort. The 2009-2010 fundraising goal is $1M.

This is a full-time, exempt position based in Rubicon's Richmond headquarters, with some flexibility in work schedule and location. The Development Director is part of the organization's Executive Team. Rubicon offers a diverse, friendly, positive, fast-paced workplace.

Responsibilities:
Fundraising: Design, development, implementation and management of the agency’s fundraising plan and development calendar. Includes developing strategic relationships, donor cultivation, overseeing corporate and foundation grants, managing annual campaigns, acting as liaison to the Board of Directors and all other stakeholders, and overseeing all other development-related activities
Communications: Managing Rubicon's PR and external communications programs. Includes all branding and marketing initiatives; collateral and web site and social media strategy and content; press releases, annual reports and other announcements
People Management & Development: Includes resource planning; managing department hiring, skills development and performance management; and supervision of direct reports
Executive Reporting: Opportunities, risks, unusual events, changes, progress against program goals & objectives

Qualifications:
• Minimum five years of demonstrated success fundraising from individuals, including major gifts; foundations and corporations; and special events. Familiarity with major San Francisco Bay Area sources of funding and contracts, including foundations and corporations highly desirable; fundraising experience for double bottom line human services organizations preferred; Proven success at grant writing for major charitable foundations
• Proven leadership ability: A proactive problem solving approach, interpersonal flexibility, strong organizational and analytical abilities, excellent oral and written communication, including negotiating, presentation and facilitation skills
• High ethical standards, sound judgment and discretion
• Solid computer literacy, including donor management software; Rubicon uses Exceed! by Telosa
• This position requires the employee to be able to travel efficiently throughout the Bay Area. If the employee opts to meet these travel requirements by driving, proof of a valid and current driver license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report are required.
