President/Executive Director
Rebuilding Together Boston
Rebuilding Together Boston (RTB), a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the community to stabilize and revitalize homes in Boston at no cost to the homeowner, seeks a President/Executive Director to lead its organizational growth. RTB is an affiliate of the national organization Rebuilding Together, and operates year-round providing ongoing renovation services. The new President will serve a highly strategic role in developing both a fundraising and public relations agenda to help guide the organization and its vision. The role also requires budget planning and finance management, as RTB plans to double its budget within the next year. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who can build on the success of the organization, while working in partnership with the Board and staff to bring RTB to the next stage of its evolution. Experience with housing and construction in the city of Boston is preferred. This position is based in Boston and reports directly to the Chair of Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy and Implementation
•Set development strategy that incorporates diverse fundraising activities to increase existing resources and build new sources of funding
•Present to civic, faith-based, and other community groups, and corporations to obtain financial, in-kind, or volunteer support
•Maintain and grow strong relationships with major donors
•Implement new funding streams such as an annual fund
•Oversee the research, writing and reporting for all grant activities
Public Relations and Communications
•Work to build awareness of RTB’s services among key constituencies including the communities of Boston so as to increase demand for services
•Work with local and state government to increase awareness and funding opportunities through public channels
•Work with media to generate timely and positive coverage of RTB’s activities and mission
•Increase public recognition of major sponsors and donors through targeted media coverage
•In partnership with the national office of Rebuilding Together, look for opportunities to increase awareness and brand recognition
Leadership and Management
•Oversee daily operations including the planning and implementation of National Rebuilding Day as well as all year-round service projects
•Oversee and manage operational budgets
•Manage two full-time staff and oversee volunteer engagement
•Oversee daily operations including implementation of RTB’s existing programs and expansion of services
•Work closely with the Board and Board committees on strategic initiatives
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and will serve as a public face for the organization, growing awareness and funding opportunities while overseeing program expansion. S/he will be well connected in the Boston nonprofit community, with strong existing relationships with key civic, business and community leaders. This position is for someone who wants to implement the organization’s strategic vision and fundraising agenda. A roll-up-the-sleeves attitude mixed with the ability to oversee growth is critical. In addition:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred
•Minimum 5 years’ management experience, with strong understanding of the nonprofit sector and working in partnership with boards of directors
•Demonstrated experience in fundraising (including understanding of and connections to funding communities), nonprofit fiscal management, budget preparation
•Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives
•Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors, and build long-term relationships
•Impressive track record of deepening relationships with funders or clients and personally cultivating and closing new relationships that achieve breakthrough results
•Experience in community partnerships and collaborations
•Ability to work with a board and staff in articulating and refining strategy
•Highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent oral presentation and written skills
•Self-directed, energetic, creative, supportive leader, collaborator, and facilitator
•Ability to work in close-knit, team environment
•Ability to represent RTB in the community
•Experience in marketing and publicity campaigns
•Commitment to engaging and working with volunteers and clients from a variety of communities and backgrounds
•Knowledge of housing and construction preferable but not required
•Bilingual English-Spanish is preferred
