Associate Director, The Broad Residency
The Broad Residency seeks an Associate Director to be responsible for supporting all programmatic aspects of The Broad Residency. He or she will report to the Senior Director of The Broad Residency and will also work closely with the program team of The Broad Residency. Created in 2003, The Broad Residency is an intensive two-year management development program offered to talented early- and mid-career professionals from the private and non-profit sectors. The purpose of the program is to provide an entry point for developing leaders who are not currently working in public education to train and prepare for senior positions in urban school systems throughout the country. Residents are placed directly in a large urban school districts or charter management organizations working for the chief executive or one of his or her cabinet-level administrators. Over the course of the two years, Residents meet together for eight long weekends for rigorous study and skill-building activities. When the program ends, Residents are well prepared to assume leadership posts in public school systems. This position is based in Oakland, CA or Los Angeles, CA and will require approximately 25% travel.
Responsibilities:
• Assist the Recruitment team to ensure a high caliber class of Broad Residents.
• Manage the host organization application and screening process with the goal of providing high quality placements for future Broad Residents in districts and charter management organizations.
• Plan and execute Residency professional development sessions, including developing assignments, managing presenters, and occasionally delivering presentations.
• Serve as an advisor to Residents and their supervisors to maximize Residents’ job performance and skill development during the Residency.
• Assist The Broad Foundation’s Communications team in marketing and communications activities in order to build public awareness of the program.
• Support other aspects of program management as needed including budget development and analysis, grant awards to districts, and program evaluation.
Qualifications:
• Graduate degree required; MBA preferred.
• Five to ten years of professional work experience, including at least two years of managerial or operating experience.
• Professional experience in at least one of the following areas preferred: program development, leadership training or urban education.
• A management and operating style suited to work in a small-office setting with limited support staff, where efficient teamwork among peers is highly valued.
• Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills.
• A commitment to producing work at high standards of quality.
• Ability to handle a heavy, diverse workload.
• A self-starter. Highly motivated.
• Demonstrated personal commitment to the cause of improving urban public education systems.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Excellent benefits, including health, dental and retirement provisions.
