Director of Development
Asian University for Women Support Foundation (AUWSF)
The Asian University for Women Support Foundation seeks a Director of Development to coordinate with the President/CEO of the Foundation and the Vice Chancellor of the Asian University for Women in developing and executing comprehensive, integrated fundraising strategies. The director will oversee the day-to-day activities and operations of the Resource Development Group, and also raise restricted and unrestricted gifts from foundation, corporate, and individual donors at all levels to support the endowment and capital support requirements. The Director will work in close collaboration with Foundation staff, including the President and the Office of the Vice Chancellor, as well as Board Members, prospective donors, and volunteer leaders. The Director will be responsible for event planning and will serve as the staff manager for domestic and regional volunteer committees. This position also includes providing grant-writing support and producing publicity material as needed. S/he will also represent AUWSF in individual meetings with prospects, discussions, and special events. This position is based in Cambridge, MA and applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Responsibilities:
•Working in close coordination with CEO, the Vice Chancellor, and the development group, establish fundraising goals and implement sound strategies for foundation, corporate and individual fundraising, including identifying, cultivating and soliciting prospects.
•Participate in donor meetings with the CEO and Vice Chancellor and conduct follow-up on all efforts, including correspondence and other contacts with donors and prospects.
•Design and supervise implementation of major donor events and smaller donor gatherings hosted by Board members and Foundation donors.
•Ensure follow-up on all efforts, including correspondence and other contacts with donors and prospects.
•Collaborate with development staff and the Office of the Vice Chancellor to create promotional materials, including case statements and general-purpose brochures.
•Prepare proposal language, case statements, and talking points for the CEO for meetings with donors and prospects.
•Supervise the tracking of existing and potential commitments, including maintaining tracking charts and copies of fundraising correspondence.
•Promote a culture of communication and transparency with free flow of information among AUWSF Office of the Vice Chancellor,
•Academic Planning, Campus Planning and the development team.
•Ensure that all fundraising activities are tracked in Raiser’s Edge.
•Develop fundraising reports in conjunction with other development staff.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong management skills, as well as excellent writing and oral communication skills. S/he should have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with various constituencies, and must also possess initiative, discretion, mature judgment, and an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate should be flexible, diplomatic, and able to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment. Additional qualifications include:
•5-7+ years of professional experience in development or related field. University experience strongly preferred.
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
•Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices.
•Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
•Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
•Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
•Good organizational and training skills.
•Experience with the Raisers Edge software preferred.
•Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. A familiarity with Asia, Asian cultures, and some capacity with Asian languages is preferable.
•A sensitivity to cultural customs and traditions a must.
